The Victorian Healthcare Experience Survey (VHES) program is expanding to better capture the experiences of people using Victoria’s public health services, adding two mental health experience surveys and the redesigned ambulance surveys in first four months of 2022.

VAHI CEO Dr Lance Emerson said the Mental Health ‘Your Experience of Service’ (YES) and ‘Carer Experience of Service’ (CES) surveys provide important insights into consumer and carer experiences in the public mental health system.

“Understanding the experiences of all people who engage with the mental health system, from patients to carers and families, has never been more important,” Dr Emerson said.

“The information and opportunities provided through these surveys will help support the implementation of the Mental Health Royal Commission recommendations and create the mental health system Victorians need and deserve.”

Data collection for the YES survey commenced on 1 February 2022, with collection for the CES survey to follow in March. Indicators from the YES survey will form part of the Performance Monitoring Framework for 2021–22 and will be included in the Quarter 4 reporting period.

As well as the mental health surveys, data collection for the redesigned Planned and Emergency Ambulance surveys will commence in April 2022.

The launch comes following an extensive review process and planning to transition the survey to an electronic format. Survey results will be finalised by the end of July and will be available to health services via the VHES Results Portal.
