About the data

The above measures look at:

  • patients transported by ambulance
  • median transfer time
  • percentage of patient transfers within 40 minutes.

About patients transported by ambulance

The total number of all patients arriving at an emergency department via ambulance.

Data excludes non-emergency patient transports.

About patient transfer time

The total time in minutes that it takes from when an ambulance arrives at an emergency department, to the time the patient is transferred to the hospital and handover is complete.

All transfer times are calculated from shortest to longest, and the time that sits in the middle is the median transfer time. The median transfer time is the time in which half of patient transfers were completed.

The 2023-24 and 2024–25 statewide targets for the percentage of patients transfers within 40 minutes have not been finalised.

Data excludes non-emergency patient transports.
