The Victorian Healthcare Experience Survey (VHES) program collects and analyses the experience of recent users of Victoria’s public health system. The purpose is to measure, monitor and report on patient experience to support a patient-centred approach to healthcare delivery.
Since 2014, the VHES program has collected feedback from over 450,000 patients. It currently surveys adult and paediatric patients (and carers) across acute, outpatient, palliative care, ambulance, and community settings in over one hundred health services.
Data collected by the VHES program provides consistent, benchmarked measures of patients’ experiences of care. Results are reported back to health services, the Department of Health and Safer Care Victoria to support collaboration and quality improvement initiatives that promote a patient-centred approach to healthcare delivery. Understanding the aspects of care that are most important to patients enables a focus on improvements in areas where they are likely to have the greatest positive impact.
Ipsos Public Affairs administers the VHES program on behalf of the Department of Health.
